Sub-delegation of Delegated Authority must be done in accordance with the听Delegations of Authority Policy.听
Staff Members may sub-delegate their authorities in two ways:
- Temporarily - By appointing an acting or relieving role (to cover an absence or period of leave, where less than 3 months); or
- More permanently (more than 3 months)听 - By transferring specific authorities that were specifically conferred upon them in accordance with the sub-delegation rules set out for that specific authority (check the sub-delegation column in relevant Delegations Schedule).
A sub-delegated authority may not be further sub-delegated without the prior written approval of the Vice-Chancellor.
Sub-delegations must be in writing听(including email) and must also specify the duration (i.e. date range) of the sub-delegation and any conditions or limits on the sub-delegation.听
Staff must copy their Finance Business Partner when sub-delegating financial delegations. Staff must copy their People and Culture Business Partner when sub-delegating people and culture delegations.听
Sub-delegation is a transfer of authority but not of accountability. This means that the person sub-delegating the authority remains accountable for the use of that authority. Sub-delegating an authority does not prevent the delegating manager from exercising that authority alongside, or instead of, the role to which the sub-delegation is given.听
