Allowing yourself to take time out to recharge and rest is important for your wellbeing, both for you, and your whānau. At the Ҷֱ we provide sick leaveso you have time to look after yourself and your immediate whānau in the event of an injury or sickness. If you are a continuing employee there is also the added time benefit of receiving an enhancedannual leavepackage of five weeks per annum. Many staff are also entitled to receive five days of University leave per year. These days are listed on ourkey dates pageand fall on the Tuesday after Easter Monday, the last working day before Christmas and the three days between Christmas and New Year.

There are a number ofleave entitlements, both paid and unpaid that are offered at the University, to help you manage your leave requirements. We have a number ofdiscretionary leaveoptions that include, but are not limited to Sports and Cultural leave, Earthquake leave and Leave without Pay. We also acknowledge long term continuing general staff members withlong service leave.

Flexible Working

UC is committed to helping staff achieve a healthy balance between work and the other important aspects of their lives. This meansthat the implementation of a flexible workingalternative may be a practical solution for bothyou and the University.

Where reasonably practicable, flexible workingarrangements may be offered such as:

  • Part-time work
  • Changes to hours of work
  • Leave without pay
  • Partial or early retirement
  • Reduced responsibilities
  • Working from home
  • Job sharing
