HOW TO APPLY

Evening Courses

We offer Mandarin Chinese classes for beginners, intermediate, and advanced learners. These courses are a great opportunity to enhance your Chinese communication skills, whether you’re starting from scratch or already have some fluency. Our classes are taught by native Chinese-speaking teachers in a fun, relaxed, and supportive environment to make learning enjoyable and engaging.

Course Structure

Our courses are based on the standard HSK examination textbooks. The HSK is the Chinese equivalent of the IELTS—an internationally recognised exam that assesses Chinese language proficiency worldwide. The HSK exams focus on the most commonly used Chinese vocabulary, ensuring you can apply what you learn in real-life situations. By using the modern, user-friendly HSK textbooks, you can expect to build Mandarin proficiency in an effective and enjoyable way.

  • If you are a complete beginner, we recommend registering for the Lower Beginners course.
  • If you’ve studied with us before, check with your teacher to determine which course level is most suitable.
  • You can also take practice exams to identify the most appropriate level for your learning needs.

Please Note: From July 2023, CI will no longer accept registrations for evening courses from students currently enrolled at the Ҷֱ. If you are interested in studying Chinese, please contact the Chinese School, Faculty of Arts for more information on Chinese language learning opportunities.

Note:In observance of Waitangi Day, classes will not be held on Thursday, 6th February.

Price Clarification: Each term usually includes 10 sessions, and the prices listed below are based on a standard 10-week term. If a term is shorter than 10 weeks, the fees will be adjusted proportionally according to the number of sessions offered. Course fees are non-refundable for non-attendance.
