Computer Science and Software Engineering offers a number of opportunities to be involved in clubs, societies, volunteer work with young people and more.

CompSoc aims to offer students the full university experience with academic and peer support combined with professional and social opportunities. Industry links mean your pathway to success beyond university is smoothed. We frequently host speakers from major employers and offer year-round help sessions for study (complete with free pizza). Most terms there is a workshop on a specific subject. These can be targeted at CSSE students or university-wide, such as 2016's Learn to Code. We host regular barbecues, have organised things like E-Sports tournaments and theCS+X FESTIVALand can even help with preparing your CV via our CV workshops.

Women in Tech (formerly Computer Chicks) is a social club for UCComputer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Information Systems or Maths students.

It is open to anyone who identifies as female - we are supportive of the LGBTQ community - and is studying the above at UC. We aim to support and connect the women studying for tech degrees. The club was started in 2009 as a response to women in the department feeling isolated and has grown into a major support network for women at all study levels.

We offer mentoring, study nights, regular social coffees (coffee is free!), the chance to share experiences and even a popular cocktail evening which is enjoyed by all the department.

If you have any questions about the club please emailucwitsoc@gmail.comYou can also request to join our group.

Computer Science and Software Engineering students can become involved in computer science and programming education by volunteering with. Teachers are encouraged to start a Code Club in their schools with support from Code Club Aotearoa, which provides resources and volunteers.
