Scholarships available for students of Māori or Pacific descent who are intending to enrol in their first year of an undergraduate degree at UC in 2025.

This is a list of Scholarships that are available for students of Māori or Pacific descent who are intending to enrol at UC in the first year of an undergraduate degree in 2025.

Each scholarship has different eligibility criteria so check the details of each one to find out if you're eligible.

We recommend you apply for all thescholarships you are eligible for, as it is possible to be awarded more than one scholarship at a time.

Scholarship NameScholarship Overview

Purpose:The scholarship recognises academic and extracurricular achievement of students in secondary education within Aotearoa New Ҷֱ, and supports study in a programme for a BCom degree at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | Ҷֱ.

Value:$5,000

Who is eligible:First-year undergraduate students intending to enrol in a Bachelor of Commerce.

Other relevant information:Scholarship is dependent on achievement of Merit or higher at NCEA Level 2, or an equivalent university entrance qualification. Four scholarships are reserved for students with whakapapa Māori, and two are reserved for Pacific students.

Purpose:This scholarship recognises and supports high achievers amongst ākonga Māori (Māori students) entering their first year of a BE(Hons) degree programme at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | Ҷֱ.

Value:$5,000 or $3,000 or $1,000

Who is eligible:First-year Māori undergraduate students intending to enrol full-time in a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) programme.

Other relevant information:Open to students commencing their first undergraduate year.

Purpose:This scholarship recognises and supports high-achieving Pacific students entering their first year of a BE(Hons) degree programme at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha Ҷֱ.

ղܱ:$5,000or $3,000 or $1,000

Who is eligible:First-year Pacific undergraduate students intending to enrol full-time in a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) programme.

Other relevant information:Open to students commencing their first undergraduate year.

ʳܰDz:This scholarship recognises leadership potential, involvement in community and cultural activities, and high academic achievement amongst intending first-year ākonga | students who have whakapapa Māori at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | Ҷֱ.

ղܱ:$7,500 towards tuition fees in the first year that fees are payable, as well as an opportunity to participate in the UC Māori leadership programme, Paihere, and a UC sponsored general leadership programme.

Who is eligible:Prospective first-year Māori undergraduate students who achieved Merit at NCEA Level 2 or a corresponding level in an equivalent university entrance qualification.

Other relevant information:Open to students commencing their first undergraduate year in the year following application.

Purpose:This scholarship recognises high academic achievement, as well as leadership potential and involvement in Pacific community and/or Pacific cultural activities, amongst intending first-year Pacific students at the Ҷֱ.

ղܱ:$7,500 towards tuition fees in the first year that fees are payable, as well as an opportunity to participate in a UC-sponsored leadership programme.

Who is eligible:Prospective first-year Pacific undergraduate students who achieved Merit at NCEA Level 2 or a corresponding level in an equivalent university entrance qualification.

Other relevant information:Open to students commencing their first undergraduate year in the year following application.

ʳܰDz:This scholarship recognises and supports Māori students with high potential at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | Ҷֱ who are entering their first year of a programme for a BA, BDataSci, or BSc degree and majoring in Data Science, Financial Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics.

ղܱ:$2,000

Who is eligible:First-year undergraduate Māori students intending to enrol in a BSc, BDataSci or BA with a major in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or Financial Engineering.

Other relevant information:Enrolment in specific courses is required.

ʳܰDz:This scholarship recognises and supports Pacific students with high potential at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | Ҷֱ who are entering their first year of a programme for a BA, BDataSci, or BSc degree and majoring in Data Science, Financial Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics.

ղܱ:$2,000

Who is eligible:First-year undergraduate Pacific students intending to enrol in a BSc, BDataSci or BA with a major in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or Financial Engineering.

Other relevant information:Enrolment in specific courses is required.

ʳܰDz:This scholarship recognises and supports high-achieving students entering their first year of the Bachelor of Forestry Science (BForSc) degree programme at the Ҷֱ.

ղܱ:$2,000

Who is eligible:First-year undergraduate students intending to enrol in a Bachelor of Forestry Science.

Other relevant information:Applicants must have studied at secondary level either (1) in Aotearoa New Ҷֱ, or (2) overseas at Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu. International students who meet these requirements are eligible to apply. One scholarship is reserved for a Māori or Pacific student.

ʳܰDz:This scholarship recognises the value of ākonga Māori (Māori students) in Te Kaupeka Ako Faculty of Education at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | Ҷֱ and aims to support those who are entering tertiary study for the first time.

ղܱ:$5,000

Who is eligible:First-year Māori undergraduate students intending to enrol in a degree programme in Education.

Other relevant information:Applicants must have studied at secondary level either (1) in Aotearoa New Ҷֱ, or (2) overseas at Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu. Applicants must be citizens or Aotearoa New Ҷֱ or holders of Aotearoa New Ҷֱ residence class visas.

Purpose:This scholarship recognises the value of Pacific students in Te Kaupeka Ako Faculty of Education at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | Ҷֱ, and aims to support those who are entering tertiary study for the first time.

Who is eligible:First-year Pacific undergraduate students intending to enrol in a degree programme in Education.

Other relevant information:Applicants must have studied at secondary level either (1) in Aotearoa New Ҷֱ, or (2) overseas at Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu.Applicants must be citizens or Aotearoa New Ҷֱ or holders of Aotearoa New Ҷֱ residence class visas.

Purpose:This scholarship recognises the value of Pacific students in Te Kaupeka Oranga Faculty of Health at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | Ҷֱ and aims to support those who are entering tertiary study for the first time.
